In a thrilling display of strength and determination, Andrew Burton, a professional firefighter from Rock Wall, TX, emerged victorious as the World’s Strongest Firefighter at the Arnold Sports Festival 2023. The highly anticipated event took place at the Greater Columbus Convention Center, where Burton competed against 17 other finalists in a series of firefighting-themed challenges.
Burton, a first-time competitor in the contest, impressed the audience and judges with his exceptional performance in various events designed to test the physical prowess of firefighters. From a grueling ambulance tire deadlift to a challenging sandbag carry and an intense axe hold, Burton showcased his resilience and skill in each competition.
“I always tried to make sure I was doing something substantial while I was at work because I had so much time there, even when we were running calls. With the sleeping schedule we have, some days I was just obliterated, and I would make those straight cardio days,” said Burton.
One of the standout events of the competition was the Fire Hydrant Load, where competitors had to lift progressively heavier hydrants onto podiums. Burton’s innovative approach to training, including using a fire hydrant from his own station, helped him secure a victory in this final event.
Despite his recent success, Burton is not resting on his laurels. He is already gearing up for future strongman competitions, including the United States Strongman National Championships and the Strongman Corporation Nationals.
