The Importance of Health, Well-being, and a Healthy Lifestyle for Romanians
Romanians prioritize health, well-being, and a healthy lifestyle for a longer life, according to a recent longevity study conducted by NN Group in 11 countries. The study revealed that 71 percent of Romanian respondents believe adopting a healthy lifestyle is crucial for living longer, along with reducing stress (68 percent), spending more time with loved ones (62 percent), and ensuring a better financial situation in the future (56 percent).
Despite the importance placed on health and well-being, 58 percent of Romanians admit to struggling with keeping up with the fast-paced everyday life and coping with stress. A significant portion (76 percent) reported experiencing at least moderate stress at times, and 63 percent expressed feeling exhausted at the end of stressful days. As a result, 9 out of 10 individuals are actively seeking ways to reduce stress and better prepare themselves for a longer life.
In terms of financial stability, while many Romanians believe they can find solutions to manage difficult situations, more than half acknowledge that they would have difficulty coping with unexpected stressors affecting their health or financial situation. This emphasizes the importance of being prepared for the unexpected, both in terms of health and financial security.
The study also highlighted the efforts made by Romanians to lead healthier lifestyles and prepare financially for the future. A majority of respondents are focused on developing professionally, increasing their income, and continuously learning new skills to better handle unforeseen circumstances.
Work-life balance was also identified as a key factor in achieving well-being and reducing stress. While most respondents reported satisfaction with their current balance and found purpose in their work, a significant portion (56 percent) expressed that a six-month break from work would be beneficial for relaxation and well-being. Additionally, 33 percent of respondents believe that a shift towards a model with more sabbatical periods throughout their career and a later retirement age could contribute to a longer, healthier life.
The NN Longevity Study, conducted online in 2023, surveyed 1,008 Romanian respondents aged between 18 and 79. The findings shed light on the importance of health, financial preparedness, and work-life balance in promoting a longer and better life for Romanians.
