Anthony Ramos Takes on New Challenge: Training for the 2025 New York City Marathon
Brooklyn, NY — From the bright lights of Broadway to the shimmering screens of Hollywood, Anthony Ramos is stepping into uncharted territory: the world of long-distance running. Best known for his roles in the revolutionary musical Hamilton and the blockbuster films A Star is Born and Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, Ramos has proven his versatility time and again. However, it’s his latest endeavor—training for the 2025 New York City Marathon—that promises to showcase yet another side of his multifaceted talent.
The decision to run the marathon came on an unexpected morning following his birthday. “I was ready to make some changes in my life and live a healthier lifestyle,” Ramos stated. “I wanted to lock in a different way.” Despite not having a history as an avid runner, he embraced the challenge head-on, and the NYC Marathon became his ultimate goal.
The Road to Training
Ramos’s journey hasn’t come without its hurdles. Balancing the demands of his acting career, which has included filming and promoting new projects, with the commitment to training has been a herculean task. Not to mention, he is also helping to launch a new bar in his hometown of Brooklyn—Milly’s, named after his mother.
In preparation for the marathon, Ramos has partnered with Olympic champion Des Linden, who has been instrumental in guiding his training. “She’s been really encouraging,” he remarked. “She’ll send me workouts weekly, reminding me to focus on speed and distance.”
Initially intimidated by the prospect of running long distances, he gradually found his stride. “In the beginning, three or four miles was hard. But now, even a half-marathon feels manageable,” he admits.
Embracing the Runner’s High
As he juggles a hectic schedule, Ramos has learned to seize every opportunity to run, whether he’s in Toronto for a film festival or exploring Venice. “You just go,” he said. This adaptability has not only improved his stamina but has also brought him mental clarity that enhances his creativity. “Some of my best ideas come on these runs,” he shared.
Ramos emphasizes the importance of preparation, whether it’s staying hydrated, maintaining a balanced diet, or ensuring he has the right gear. He plans to lace up in Brooks’ Glycerin Max shoes on race day and stresses the significance of nutrition, stating, “I’ll be carbing up the final days before the marathon to ensure I’m ready.”
Running for a Cause
While the marathon is undoubtedly a personal challenge, Ramos’s journey also has a philanthropic twist. Alongside friends, including his brother and former teacher, he has committed to raising funds for his scholarship, benefiting aspiring students through the organization Scholarship Plus. “There have been amazing opportunities that have come through this,” he remarked, reflecting on the importance of giving back.
Looking forward, Ramos is already eyeing future races, including a half-marathon in Puerto Rico, while simultaneously promoting his upcoming film, A House of Dynamite.
As he prepares to cross the starting line on November 2, the weekend of his 34th birthday, Ramos has a simple plan for celebrating his milestone achievement. “I’m gonna hug my mama to thank her for giving me legs to run with, then go take a nap.”
With his tenacity and passion, there’s little doubt that Anthony Ramos will not only complete the marathon but will also inspire countless others to pursue their own challenges—both on and off the track.
