Blueberries, Turkey Bacon, and Other Items Recalled This Week

Urgent Food Recalls: Listeria and Allergen Issues Prompt Major Product Withdrawals

June 30, 2023 — In a week marked by heightened food safety concerns, several high-profile food products have been recalled across the U.S. due to potential contamination and labeling errors. Consumers are urged to check their pantries and refrigerators to ensure their safety.

Leading the recalls is a significant action by Kraft Heinz, which has pulled approximately 367,812 pounds of Oscar Mayer turkey bacon from store shelves. This recall comes on the heels of lab tests revealing possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes—a bacteria that can cause serious infections, particularly in vulnerable populations.

Health officials have classified this recall as a Class 1 risk, indicating a high level of health hazard. “If you have this product at home, it is critical to dispose of it or return it to the place of purchase immediately,” a USDA representative warned. The affected turkey bacon products include:

  • 12-oz. vacuum packages – UPC: 071871548601 (Use By: July 18, 2025, to Aug. 2, 2025)
  • 3-pack of 12-oz. packages – UPC: 071871548748 (Use By: July 23, 2025, to Sept. 4, 2025)
  • 4-pack of 12-oz. packages – UPC: 071871548793 (Use By: July 18, 2025, to Sept. 4, 2025)

Blueberries Also Impacted by Listeria Concerns

In a related safety risk, Alma Pak International LLC issued a recall for 12,000 pounds of organic blueberries after routine testing found Listeria. Fortunately, these blueberries were distributed to only one customer, eliminating the need for widespread concern among the general public.

Lunch Meat Recall: Labeling Errors

A recall on 143,416 pounds of lunch meats has also been announced due to labeling issues from Gaiser’s European Style Provisions Inc. These products potentially contain undeclared meats like beef, chicken, and pork, classified at a Class 3 risk level. While the health risk is considered low, consumers are still advised to dispose of or return affected items for refunds.

Chocolate Nonpareils Recall Due to Undeclared Allergen

Adding to the list, Wegmans issued a recall for their semi-sweet chocolate nonpareils, sold in eight states and Washington, D.C. Due to a labeling error, the products contained undeclared milk, posing a severe risk for individuals with dairy allergies. Customers are advised to return the chocolate for a full refund.

The Following Identifications Are Essential for the Chocolate Nonpareils Recall:

  • Size: 18.5 oz. (1 LB 2.5 oz.)
  • UPC: 0 77890 49787 6
  • Best By Dates: Various ranging from Dec. 28, 2025, to April 12, 2026.

What Consumers Should Do Now

Consumers are advised to monitor their supplies for any of the aforementioned products and dispose of them immediately. Anyone experiencing symptoms of Listeria infection, such as fever, muscle aches, or gastrointestinal issues, should consult a healthcare professional.
