Canadians experience decreased sleep and physical activity as they strive for healthier lifestyles

Headline: Canadians’ Well-Being Scores Remain Low Compared to Pre-Pandemic Levels

In a recent report published by Dialogue Health Technologies Inc, Canada’s leading virtual health and wellness platform, it was revealed that Canadian employees’ overall well-being scores are generally low and remain significantly worse than pre-pandemic levels. According to the report, Canadians are struggling with lifestyle challenges related to sleep and physical activity, which are impacting their overall well-being.

The report utilizes Dialogue’s Well-Being Score, which benchmarks thousands of people across Canada every month using the World Health Organization’s Well-Being Index (WHO-5). The Well-Being Report uncovers insights across five dimensions of mental health and well-being, including mood, stress, sleep, activeness, and sense of purpose. Results show that Canadians scored lower on sleep and physical activity compared to other dimensions, indicating potential issues in these areas.

Dr. Marc Robin, Medical Director at Dialogue, emphasizes the importance of measuring and benchmarking individuals’ well-being to identify areas of struggle and implement small, measurable changes to daily habits. By leveraging the WHO-5 self-assessment, individuals can recognize and embrace small, everyday steps that lead to a healthier lifestyle.

The report also highlighted that Canadians are scoring significantly worse than pre-pandemic levels, with older Gen Zs and younger millennials displaying the lowest subjective scores compared to other age groups. However, when given options to improve well-being, 71% of employees with access to Dialogue’s Wellness Program were motivated to start small, easily achievable new habits.

Employers play a crucial role in supporting their employees’ well-being, especially as employees expect more proactive support in living healthier lives. By providing evidence-based, accessible tools and strategies, employers can help their workforce address health concerns more proactively, reducing instances of presenteeism and absenteeism in the workplace.

The Well-Being Score provides employers with clear insights to understand where to better invest in their employees’ wellness and create a healthier, happier workforce. By empowering individuals to take charge of their health through small, attainable daily habits, Dialogue aims to improve Canadians’ overall well-being and reduce the need for more serious care in the future.
