Nationwide Cucumber Recall Due to Salmonella Outbreak Sparks Widespread Concern

May 30, 2025 — A nationwide recall of cucumbers linked to a multistate Salmonella outbreak has raised alarms among consumers and health officials alike. The recall, initiated on May 19 for cucumbers from Bedner Growers, Inc., has prompted the removal of numerous related products from grocery store shelves across the country.

As of late May, reports indicate that at least 45 individuals have contracted Salmonella, with 16 requiring hospitalization across 18 states. The contaminated cucumbers, distributed by Fresh Start Produce, have been sold nationally since April 29, 2025.

• Target’s Cucumber and Sushi Items – Several cucumber products and sushi rolls containing cucumbers, all recalled since May 19.

• Kroger’s Salads and Veggie Trays – An extensive list of salads and vegetable trays featuring fresh cucumbers, with products affected across multiple states including Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky.

In addition, several brands of salsas, deli salads, and prepackaged Greek salads have been pulled from various retailers, including Albertsons and Isabelle’s Kitchen. Notably, products from JFE Franchising, known for their sushi offerings, are also under scrutiny due to potential contamination.

The outbreak has created a ripple effect; products containing cucumbers are under the microscope, with more retailers joining the recall efforts daily. Consumers are advised to discard any items that may contain the recalled cucumbers and to remain vigilant for signs of illness.
