“Cutting Back on Ultra-Processed Foods Can Lead to Significant Health Benefits, Study Finds”
A recent study published in Obesity Science and Practice has found that reducing ultra-processed foods in the diet can have remarkable health benefits in a short period of time. The study followed 14 adults through an eight-week behavioral program aimed at cutting back on ultra-processed foods, and the results were astonishing.
Participants in the study were able to reduce their daily intake of ultra-processed foods by nearly 50%. This led to an average weight loss of nearly eight pounds per person. In addition, participants also saw a reduction in their overall calorie intake by 612 calories per day, a 37% decrease in sodium intake, and a halving of daily sugar consumption.
The program included weekly group coaching sessions focused on skills like meal planning and managing cravings, as well as one-on-one meal planning and financial assistance to help cover the cost of minimally processed foods. These resources helped the participants make meaningful changes in their diet and achieve significant results in a relatively short amount of time.
According to Dr. Raj Dasgupta, an associate professor of clinical medicine, “small changes can lead to significant results.” By limiting ultra-processed foods, individuals may experience weight loss, better energy levels, and improved mood. The study highlights the importance of reducing ultra-processed foods in the diet and provides practical tips for getting started on a healthier eating plan.
