Look no further than the upcoming lifestyle medicine course taking place March 18-20, 2024, at the Hyatt Regency in Newport Beach, California. This event offers participants the opportunity to earn up to 24 Live AAFP Prescribed credits and is approved as a CME event prerequisite for the American Board of Lifestyle Medicine physician certification exam.
Led by course co-chairs Brenda Rea, M.D., Dr.P.H., P.T., R.D., Dipl. ABLM, FACLM, and Amy Mechley, M.D., Dipl. ABLM, FAAFP, FACLM, this course will focus on applying lifestyle medicine concepts not only to patient care but also to staff and physician well-being. Participants will have the chance to practice the principles of lifestyle medicine themselves and create a wellness plan for their personal health moving forward, with an emphasis on reducing burnout and moral injury.

The three-day course features a variety of learning formats, including morning yoga sessions, direct interaction with surrogate patients, team-based problem solving, and informal skill practice sessions. Topics covered will include health coaching, plant-predominant nutrition, substance use and sleep, connectedness and stress, and physical movement, among others. Optional workshops on culinary medicine, payment strategies for lifestyle medicine services, and health coaching and motivational interviewing will also be available for an additional fee.
AAFP members can access additional resources on lifestyle medicine funded by a grant from the Ardmore Institute of Health, including a free online CME activity and implementation guide. Patient-centric materials on healthy living are also available on the AAFP’s website for patients.
