Navigating Survival Mode in Subnautica: Essential Gameplay Tips

Surviving in Subnautica: A Guide to Gameplay

Subnautica is a game that takes players on an underwater survival adventure, filled with stunning scenery and challenging gameplay. While it’s easy to get caught up in the thrills of exploration, it’s important to remember the basics of survival to keep your character alive. Here’s a guide to the gameplay mechanics in Subnautica:

Key Areas to Maintain

In Survival Mode or Hardcore Mode, there are key areas that you need to keep an eye on to stay alive:

  • Oxygen
  • Food
  • Water
  • Body temperature
  • Health/Damage

The circles on your screen will indicate the level of each resource, with different colors representing different stats. Green is for Oxygen level, red is for health, yellow is for food, blue is for water, and teal is for body temperature. Your PDA will alert you when any of these levels are getting low, so it’s important to address them promptly.

Survival Tips

Here are some tips on how to handle each situation in Subnautica:

  • Oxygen: Swim to the surface, use the Seatruck or Prawn Suit with oxygen production, or enter your Seabase with power.
  • Food: Gather and consume edible fish like Bladderfish, Arctic Peeper, and Hoopfish. Cooking fish in your Fabricator is recommended to avoid dehydration.
  • Water: Use a Bladderfish to create water, consume Fevered Peppers, or find Disinfected Water in storage crates.
  • Body temperature: Seek shelter in caves or near Thermal Lilies to warm up. Eating Fevered Peppers can help raise your body temperature.
  • Health/Damage: Craft or forage First Aid Kits to heal injuries from attacks by creatures. Keep important items in storage to avoid losing them upon death.

If you happen to die in the game, you will respawn back in your nearest Seatruck or Prawn Suit, or in the Drop Pod if those are not available. It’s important to be prepared for the challenges ahead and always have a plan for survival.

Remember, while the gameplay may be intense, don’t forget to take a moment to appreciate the beauty of the underwater world in Subnautica. Happy exploring!
